Why did you choose hospitality industry as your career?

I was always very passionate about hospitality industry because it is one of the most glamorous industry and yet it is one of the most disciplined industry as well. This amalgamation really attracted me and I really fancied.

Did your thoughts about hospitality industry has changed now?

When I joined the hotel industry, there is a notion that you will have hectic work hours, and there will be no work-life balance. But later I realize that yes there is work because it is a 24-hour operational industry, you have to work hard, but there is no problem balancing the work-life balance.

There is a unique concept of power series at the hotel. It has few sub-parts, like power ideas. If the hotel is facing any problem, they would invite people from any level to pitch an idea and whichever idea works, they are awarded.

Hotel industry provides various kinds of incentives and this is one of them. There is also this power-nap series, where you can go for a power nap of 30 minutes.

How was your life at I.H.M Pusa?

Life at IHM Pusa was a very different experience. I have always liked the hotel industry but before joining IHM Pusa, I was clueless about what exactly it is.I only knew about kitchen operation, front desk, reception, and housekeeping. But at IHM Pusa I came to know that how vast hospitality industry is.

What are the things according to you which needs to be changed about IHM Pusa?

IHM Pusa’s infrastructure is very old. It definitely needs improvement.

What are the attributes which one needs to crack the MT programme?

Good communication skill is very imperative to crack the MT program. You should be fluent and confident with the language. You should know the basics of all the departments. You can not restrict yourself to one thing. You should be clear in your mind as to what you want to do. You should be innovative, curious, and should not depend on anyone else.

How much grades matter when it comes to getting a job?

It does not matter, except for some company who do consider it. Some company requires that you should have a minimum percentage like ITC has very clear criteria of marks and attendance.

Apart from that if you have the knowledge, if you have skills, marks really do not matter. But you need to have a decent percentage and it is not very tough to maintain a decent percentage if you know the basics.

In India, students have to face a lot of difficulties while opting for a career in hospitality industry. What do you think its reasons are?

One reason could be that people still have that notion that hospitality is one industry where you may face a lot of challenges and abuses, which is not really true. Second reason could be people think that girls working in this industry have that kind of that strength of character as in any other sector

But now these things are changing and because of the working shifts, people restrain their girls from joining hospitality industry.

What would be your message to the students who want to pursue hotel management and their parents?

For parents – If you are planning to send your kids to the hospitality industry, be prepared to see them toil hard.

For students – Get ready to work hard. If you will work hard, there would be a success because there is no dearth of opportunity in this field.
