The Department of Posts office, Ministry of Communications, Government of India is going to conduct a National Letter Writing Contest under the “Dhai Akhar-Letter Writing Campaign”.

Submit till – 15th August


  1. The subject of this writing campaign is “Dear Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi), you inspire me” and the letter can be written in English or Hindi or any Local Language in the name of Bapu or Mahatma Gandhi and may be addressed to the Chief Postmaster of the particular circles.
  2. A-4 size paper can be used and letter will not be more than 1000 words or in an Inland Letter Card (ILC) where its, maximum limit will not be more than 500 words.
  3. The stamped envelope and the Inland Letter Card (ILC) will be the permitted stationery.
  4. It is open to all and includes all age groups.
  5. The writer will have to go to the post office and post the letter in a particularly designated letter box.

The Best Writers of All India level in each category will be honoured with the title of “Patron of Post”. The prize winning letters will be published in leading newspapers.

Cash Prizes:

All India level:

  1. First prize: Rs. 50,000/- (Patron of Post)
  2. Second prize: Rs. 25,000/- (Companion of Post)
  3. Third prize: Rs. 10,000/- (Post Pal)

Circle level:

  1. First prize: Rs. 25,000/-
  2. Second prize: Rs. 10,000/-
  3. Third prize: Rs. 5,000/-

*There are 22 ‘circles’ in India.

The best 3 letters of a circle in each category will be nominated and sent to the Board of directors. Out of these, the best 3 will be chosen in each of the above mention categories and sent to Sabarmati Ashram by special messenger.

Writers of these letters will be awarded in a function to be held at Sabarmati Ashram on 2nd October 2017, where a letter exhibition will be organised.

10 best letters in each category of each post circle will be presented in a special philately exhibition which will be organised on the eve Gandhi Jayanti in Circle Headquarters.
