Let us start the journey from where it all begins, as soon as the NCHM JEE ranking was declared I knew I was going to be allotted Institute of hotel management catering technology & applied nutrition, Ahmedabad. I was very excited to be a part of the college. I had heard that it was one of the prestigious institutes for hospitality and soon enough I discovered why. Its most striking feature was the infrastructure. It was equipped with everything, from Air conditioned library to Air conditioned conference hall, computer lab, Restaurant “Avezika” where we have our F&B service lectures.


With the advent of the morning light, comes the quiet and insistent chirping of the birds and we open our eyes to the peaceful and lush surroundings that make up IHM-Ahmedabad.

The students were then introduced to the experienced faculty members which have been in the industry and are highly educated. Many professors of our institute are National Awardees and are know worldwide for there quality teaching in the field of hospitality. The professors were very attentive apart from being highly qualified. Their effective teaching methodologies like Power Point Presentations, discussions and debates make classes interactive. They are very passionate and want their students to learn everything. The institute however, is very particular about the attendance, way too particular. The grooming standards of IHM-A are unbeatable, each and every student of our institute will be found in perfect grooming and maintaining the decorum of the institute.

The ambience of this institute is quite pleasant. Students here are committed to what they do and what they care about, with the institute providing them with enough opportunities to realise their dreams and supporting throughout.

Institute also organises a National Seminar on annual basis in which expertise from the hospitality industry are called and we have a sound discussion on the topic, the topic for this year academic year was vegetarianism: emerging trends and the chief speaker was The iconic chef Manjit Gill, Corporate chef, ITC Hotels & President, Indian Federation of Culinary Associations.

Being in a hotel management institute, one expects a well equipped & fully furnished kitchens & restaurant and IHM-A meets the expectations fully. All the equipments which the college has are according to the set standards and norms of the hotel industry.

Our library houses the latest collections of books, newspapers, hospitality magazines, subject related books, industrial training reports, research projects and journals.


There is much more to this institute than endless stacks. IHM-A encourages every student to take part in sports and remain fit. There is a basketball court and a playground for all other sports. The institute organises annual sports meet which incubate feeling of togetherness and leadership among the students.

IHM-A being one of the pioneer institution of its kind deals with the social aspects to make “Earth a better place to live” by conducting weekly activities under the umbrella of Eco Club.

The hostel rooms at IHM-A are pretty spacious. our Hostel can accommodate 300 persons approximately. The hotel for boys and girls are separate. inside the hostel the students are having fully furnished common washrooms on each floor. We have a common room in which the students can enjoy with there friends and watch TV. We have all the sports equipments available for students use.

The hostel food is freshly made and is hygienic(under the surveillance of the mess incharge), we have a cyclic menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the food is served in the dining hall(The Hostel mess).

Our Principal, Dr. J.K. Mangaraj is extremely helpful and thrive to open every door of opportunity for their students. The examination and marking system is very transparent and the institute strictly follows NCHM guidelines, leaving no room for partiality.

IHM-A also inculcate entrepreneurial skills among the students, for example our college students have formed a not for profit venture by the name of “Chaifeteria” under which they used to cater the needs of the public by operating F&B stalls in various colleges and universities events(part of our outdoor catering). One such event was the catering of Pentagram 2017, the annual fest of Gujarat national law university. The feedback received from the organisers was amazing and encouraging for our students.

The institute is very upfront about issues on campus and keeps everyone diligently informed. Campus crimes are practically a myth and strict actions are taken if any violations occurs.

The placements are quite satisfactory, with many of the students being placed with top notch companies like The Oberoi, Taj, IHG & Hyatt etc. and we have 100% placement record.

The ideology of the institute is to strive for excellence in the hospitality education. Hence, it can be said undoubtedly that in the years to come IHM-A will be the topmost hotel management institute of India.
