My name is Abhilash Aniyan, I interned at Reliance Industries Limited in Shahdol. Its upstream sector consists of exploration, appraisal, development and production. RIL have conventional as well as unconventional fields. They have two Coal Bed Methane (CBM) blocks in Sohagpur East and West district in Madhya Pradesh. The two blocks are currently under development phase.

Two blocks offered under CBM Round-I in the central part of Sohagpur coalfield proved to be major productive CBM plays. The CBM at Sohagpur predominantly contains 95% -97% methane formed mainly via thermogenic process. Sohagpur West is planned to have 558 production wells while Sohagpur East contains 537 wells spanning over an area of 500 sq.km and 495 sq.km respectively. GOFOR software is used to estimate the reservoir characteristics and Gas composition here.

I was an intern in the Drilling and Completion (D&C) department of the CBM project under Mr. Dharmesh Tailong at Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh. It was an amazing experience which covered every aspect of drilling and completion operations like production hole drilling, cementing, hydraulic fracturing to name a few. There were both day and night shifts on the field during the period of the training.

My mentors, Mr. Kshitij Agrawal and Mr. Vinoth Kumar were always approachable and helpful towards me and the fellow interns. We were allowed to visit fields, learn about the drilling and completion operations, and were also provided with helpful study material we required for knowing more about the operations that were in motion there.

We were given the Personal Protective Equipments (PPE) that included helmet, shoes, ear plugs and goggles on the first day of the internship period. We always had safety meetings and drills before the start of the operation that was about to happen the given day. I have learnt a lot during the course of internship and my concepts about drilling and completions are more clear than ever.
